SAIC Motor, Shanghai International Port Group (SIPG) and China Mobile jointly announced the official launch of the world's first 5G+L4 IHDT (intelligent heavy duty truck) Operation on Nov 9.

The project will effectively improve the port's operation and traffic efficiency, environmental protection and safety level, creating significant commercial and social benefits and helping Yangshan Port to become a world-leading intelligent port.

From Yangshan Deepwater Port Logistics Park via Donghai Bridge to Yangshan Terminal, the 72-kilometer round-trip covers complex scenarios such as ordinary roads, expressways, container terminals, storage yards and heavy traffic at night, in addition to the gale-force winds on Donghai Bridge over 60 days a year. Equipped with AI (artificial intelligence), 5G (fifth generation wireless systems), V2X (vehicle to everything) and other advanced technologies, SAIC IHDT has obtained the open road test license for intelligent connected vehicles in Shanghai. It has successfully realized L4 automatic driving, centimeter-level positioning, precise parking (±3 cm), interaction with automatic port equipment and platoon driving on Donghai Bridge. It's absolutely a smarter, safer, more efficient and more environmentally friendly container transport solution for port transport customers.
