What services are included in legal aid?

In civil or administrative cases, legal aid professionals will offer counseling, investigate and collect materials about the case and offer their proposals.
In criminal cases, they will offer different services in different stages:
(1) During the stage of investigation, legal aid professionals may meet in person with the suspect or write letters to him or her, offer legal counseling, serve as an agent for appeal, apply to change compulsory measures, gather information about the alleged crime and offer legal proposals;
(2) In the stage of examination before prosecution, they may meet in person with the accused or write letters to him or her, investigate and collect materials about the case and offer their proposals;
(3) In the stage of trial, they may meet in person with the accused or write letters to him or her and propose that the punishment should be mitigated or the accused acquitted.
