Online video-based legal aid introduced in Shanxi
Updated:2016-06-13
An online video system is helping residents in Shanxi province receive legal aid in a more convenient way since its trial operation starting Dec 3, 2015.
Legal aid centers at each level can initiate an online dialogue between each other to find solutions to problems. The provincial center can monitor files in city and county-level centers and offer help if needed.
Wang Likun, an expert in charge of the system at the provincial center, said, "The system is designed to address the unequal distribution of legal resources."
With the help of the system, people in counties can have access to professional legal service at local centers. Wang said the province will invest in the online video system to reach another 400 townships.
The system also enables the transfer of inquires from one center to others at different levels if there are too many calls or the question cannot be answered.
The province has set up a team of some 80 experts from the lawyers' association, the notaries' association as well as other special committees to handle legal aid matters. They will also offer online training to legal aid lawyers at lower levels.
