Updated:2016-06-07
Ten model citizens with outstanding contributions in the legal field in 2015 were honored at a ceremony jointly hosted by the National Legal Publicity Office, the Ministry of Justice, and CCTV. The Supreme People's Court, the Supreme People's Procuratorate and the Ministry of Public Security also contributed to the event.
The ten individuals include Zhang Hui from the public security bureau in Zhejiang province's Jinhua city, who helped uncover China's biggest illegal "underground bank" case; Tang Ji, a reporter from the Xinhua News Agency, who spent ten years on reporting and helping bringing about a retrial of a case; Peng Shaoyong, a procurator from Hebei province's Baoding city, who decided against pressures from all sides to not arrest the wrong suspect; Ma Lan, a lawyer, who gave up a good salary to provide legal aid in poor mountainous regions in Gansu, Tibet, Yunnan and Guizhou; Wu Changzhen, a well-known scholar and writer against domestic violence, who was committed to safeguarding women and children's benefits; and Chen Jie, a press photographer, who ventured into the Tengger Desert to unveil its appalling pollution.
Salutes were paid to those who died on their legal work positions: Zou Bihua, a judge; Gao Baolai, a school entrance guard; and Chen Yunzhou, an anti-corruption procurator; and to all those who publicized laws, using talking-singing arts, allegro, couplets, microfilms and short plays for public legal education.
