The Wuxi government released a plan for the development of the 5G industry on March 18, making it the first prefecture-level city in China to do so.
According to the plan, by 2025, Wuxi will build a world-class 5G network and become a leader in 5G. The city will be fully covered with an indoor and outdoor 5G networks within five years, with the city's 5G industry reaching a value of 100 billion yuan ($14.05 billion).
The plan states that the 5G industry will be made of a 5G main industrial chain and a supporting industrial chain. The main industrial chain will include the 5G communication system, which is divided into three major categories: terminals, networks, and applications. The supporting industrial chain is an emerging industry formed by the deep integration of 5G with other ICT industries, internet of things, artificial intelligence, big data, cloud computing, and more.
Wuxi boasts a strong industrial foundation for 5G networks. As a national sensor network demonstration zone, the city is home to over 50 enterprises and institutions developing equipment for the 5G industrial chain, whose revenue exceeded 30 billion yuan in 2019.
The city will work to promote the integration of 5G technology into daily life and build innovation platforms for 5G applications to develop industrial internet, internet of vehicles, new media, and a smart city.
