Wuxi-made Mobike comes home

Despite its recent arrival in Wuxi, Mobike has already begun winning over local residents, as Lu Yang, a local electrical engineer, reflected when discussing his experience with the bikes.

“It used to take me 15 minutes to get to my company by bus after taking the metro. However, Mobike has replaced the bus for me and now I can also get some exercise on a daily basis. The bicycle is also not as heavy as what people used to say.”

Lu's last point relates to the fact that Wuxi has received the latest generation of Mobikes, which are far lighter. Additional upgrades include a new disc brake technology designed for a safer ride and a mudguard that keeps the legs of riders dry on rainy days.

Mobikes are easily recognizably by their slick silver-orange design and here residents take one for a spin following the company's press conference in Wuxi's National Software Park in Xinwu district. [Photo provided to China Daily]

First launched in Shanghai on April 22, 2016, Mobike currently operates in 24 cities around China and boasts more than one million bicycles in its fleet.
