Microscopic carving is an art of carving on tiny objects (such as rice, soybeans, or other objects of similar size). It requires extremely exquisite carving skills. It takes much efforts to carve out a three-dimensional painting on a grain of rice!
First, it requires solid calligraphy and painting skills. Second, it requires outstanding carving skills. Finally, it needs concentration. All of them are not able to achieve overnight, so the craftsmen of microscopic carving are rare in China and there is only one in Wuxi making the microscopic carving.
Yang Qijia, an inheritor of Wuxi microscopic carving art, applied for a municipal-level intangible cultural heritage status for the art, which will make more people aware of this traditional art. Visitors can go to Yang Qijia Microscopic Carving Studio to enjoy the works of art. The studio is located in Huishan Ancient Street.
