The Taixing Economic Development Zone of Taixing, a county-level city administered by Taizhou in East China's Jiangsu province, was recently praised for its circular transformation practices.
The circular transformation project was launched by the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Finance to help economic development zones head towards low-carbon development.

Since it was elected as a testing area in 2016, great efforts have been made by the zone to develop its circular economy, and the zone has since developed a more sustainable economy, industrial chain clusters, efficient use of local resources, and a virtuous ecological cycle.
Compared to 2015, its usage of solid waste has hit a rate of 96.2 percent, while the rate of reused industrial water now stands at 88.1 percent. The emission intensity of main pollutants – ammonia nitrogen, sulfur dioxide, and nitrogen oxides – fell by 13 percent, 41.9 percent, and 38.3 percent, respectively.
The zone has leveraged special capital to transform and clean up pollutants, establish waste-exchange platforms, develop research and development into circular economy technologies and incubators, construct statistics-monitoring systems, and promote the circular transformation of production-oriented service industries.
