The county-level city of Taixing – administered by Taizhou city in East China's Jiangsu province – is continuing efforts started in recent years to promote the establishment of lush and eco-friendly countryside.
These have yielded results and recognition and on Feb 17, the Taixing Forestry Administration was honored as one of the national-level advanced collectives in its area.
The total natural resources of Taixing continue to grow and the city currently has a total land area of 1.78 million mu (118,000 hectares), with forests covering an area of 450,500 mu and a total forest-coverage rate of 26.59 percent.
High-quality native plant species, precious variegated species and featured species have been widely used in shaping the environment, which have optimized the forest structure and enhanced its ecological properties, said Yuan Jue, director of the Taixing Forestry Technology Extension Service Center.
Aiming to introduce 30 new areas of eco-friendly villages every year, Taixing has established some 551 eco-friendly villages at above a municipal level to date, with 332 provincial ones among them.
In addition, more than 10 interplanting patterns have been explored and promoted there to improve the quality and efficiency of plants.
Moreover, an ecological forestry industry has preliminarily been established in Taixing, with 12 leading forestry and fruit-growing leisure and sightseeing enterprises now operating there, said Liu Kedong, a senior manager at the center.
