The bio-fermentation and future food industries in the Taixing Huangqiao Economic Development Zone – located in Taixing city, in East China's Jiangsu province – recently came under the spotlight at the city's online news release hall.
Future food is about applying innovative biotechnology to create, and manufacture attractive new food products and ingredients that are nutritious and sustainable.
With a planned area of 3,000 mu (200 hectares), the "Bio-fermentation and Future Food City of China" was officially inaugurated in the zone in June 2021.
Goals have been set by the zone to seize the potential markets for future food.
It aims to establish a research institute for bio-fermentation and future food, a research institute for special medical foods and a quality supervision and inspection center for fermented food.
"Since the establishment of the Bio-fermentation and Future Food City of China, it has attracted a batch of industry-related enterprises and 15 high-level talent teams from scientific research institutions," said Feng Hucheng, an official at the zone's investment promotion department.
One of them is Dongsheng Biotech (Taixing) Co Ltd, a top enterprise in the zone. It has the largest production base for TG enzyme complex additives in China, with a production volume accounting for 60 percent of the national market.
