A seminar centering on the development of special medical foods was held in Taixing city – administered by Taizhou in East China's Jiangsu province – on Sept 23.
In recent years, the release of the Health China 2030 Initiative and the national nutrition plan (2017-2030) is said to have reflected the increasing emphasis on health and nutrition of the government and the public.
Chen Wei, principal of Jiangnan University and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, delivered a special report to the seminar.
Liu Qing, director of the National Innovation Center par Excellence (NICE) and president of the Jiangsu Industrial Technology Research Institute, introduced the development of his center and the institute.
In 2022, the provincial Party committee and the provincial government of Jiangsu released a guideline to support Taizhou to build a demonstration zone for the development of its health industry.
Focusing core sections like special medical foods and nutrition supplements, Taizhou has been accelerating the layout of the future food industry.
The seminar also discussed building a special medical foods research institute in Taixing, to boost the development of the city's bio-fermentation and future food industries.
