Manufacturer Dongsheng Biotech (Taixing) Co Ltd, located in the Taixing Huangqiao Economic Development Zone – in Taixing city, administered by Taizhou in East China's Jiangsu province – has moved to maintain the safety of its confined production space.
The term confined space refers to enclosed or partially enclosed space –relatively isolated from the outside world – with narrow entrances and exits, so operators cannot work inside for long time.
The company specializes in the research, development and production of green food additives. Through regular risk assessments, over 100 storage tanks and 17 sewage treatment tanks have been designated as confined spaces.
The increasing cost base is an important incentive for the company to ensure the integrity of its confined space.
"The company invested 2.25 million yuan ($313,292) in promoting its technical transformation and equipping itself with emergency supplies last year. Of that, 1 million yuan was used to introduce an automatic can cleaning machine, which can replace manual operations," said Ji Zhen, the safety director.
Since the start of the year, the zone has screened 22 enterprises involved in confined spaces, in a bid to help enterprises with high risk in confined spaces prevent risks and achieve comprehensive improvements in safety management, stated Yang Jihong, a zone official.
