Huangqiao town of Taixing city, in Taizhou, East China's Jiangsu province will push hard to return 1,000 mu (66.67 hectares) of forest area back into farmland, thus promoting the construction of high-standard farmlands.
In recent days, three excavators have been busy turning forest area back into farmland in Donggu village of Huangqiao town. Since 2021, of the inefficient forests that measure 900 mu, more than 250 mu have been restored into farmlands.
Villages in Huangqiao town have been troubleshooting inefficient forests this year, and it has been decided that financial subsidies will be implemented to ensure that grain can be grown on the restored farmland, said local official Liao Shantao.
Huangqiao town implemented farmland protection policies in 2019, and to date, over 10,000 mu of new grain cultivation area have been added over the past four years.
