Land of opportunity: Emmy-winner explores Taicang
Emmy-winner Mike Walter recently visited Taicang, a county-level city of Suzhou, East China's Jiangsu province, to explore the city's success as a land of opportunity for international entrepreneurs and enterprises.
Known as the "hometown of German enterprises", Taicang is home to over 500 German businesses and many German people, making it a hub for Sino-German cooperation in China.
Erwin Gerber, owner of a traditional German bread bakery, came to Taicang in 2012. He has since expanded his business nationwide, benefiting from the thriving online shopping culture and developed transportation system.
Philipp Wilhelm, chief financial officer of Kroschu China, attributes Taicang's appeal to its proximity to Shanghai and its comprehensive ecosystem, which makes international residents feel at home there.
Walter also visited the Suzhou Chien-Shiung Institute of Technology, where students receive dual-system vocational education. By combining classroom learning with apprenticeships, the city ensures a steady supply of skilled professionals for the growth of German enterprises.
