Taicang firms roar back to post-holiday production
Enterprises in Taicang, a city in Suzhou, East China's Jiangsu province, are buzzing with production activity as the eight-day Spring Festival holiday comes to an end.
Magna (Taicang) Automotive Technology Co Ltd is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Magna International Group, and a Global Fortune 500 company. The company specializes in producing automotive lighting and actuators, widely used in both domestic and international automotive markets.
"The return-to-work rate is expected to reach 90 percent by Feb 18," said Chen Ying, human resources manager at Magna (Taicang), on Feb 17.
To ensure an adequate workforce, the company started recruiting engineers, managers, and other positions on Feb 16, two days ahead of the first day back to work after the holiday. "We received around 50 applications for blue-collar positions in a single day, and we have hired half of them to ensure timely delivery of orders," Chen added.
Not only have businesses returned to their usual bustling state, but many construction sites have also resumed operations. Over 200 workers are currently engaged in the construction of an expansion project funded by Huaneng Power International Inc.
"We expect all personnel to be back on Feb 19," said Feng Bo, who is in charge of the project.
