The China Association for Science and Technology recently recognized the SIMIC InnoSpring Incubator in Shanghai's Jiading district as a model case for supporting overseas returnee tech talent.
In early 2023, SIMIC InnoSpring Incubator helped Shanghai Semiconductors Inc secure new funding, aiding its business expansion. Founder Lu Yumin, who returned to China in 2014 after working in Singapore for 10 years, praised SIMIC InnoSpring Incubator for its support in funding, entrepreneurial guidance, and market expansion.
"SIMIC InnoSpring Incubator also frequently facilitated exchanges with industry experts and investors, promoting the rapid growth and development of our company," he said.
With the incubator's support, Gu Jiebin, a Ph.D. from Imperial College London, founded Shanghai MCT Semiconductor Technology in 2018. Gu highlighted how SIMIC InnoSpring Incubator helped turn his research into a business.
"In transitioning from 'Dr. Gu' to 'CEO Gu', SIMIC InnoSpring Incubator has been a constant companion. During the startup phase, they helped us establish the company and provided strategic planning, operational management, and other forms of support. In the growth phase, SIMIC InnoSpring Incubator built industry exchange platforms, helping us establish collaborations with upstream and downstream enterprises, accelerating the industrial application of our technology," Gu explained.
As a national-level innovation and entrepreneurship base, SIMIC InnoSpring Incubator continues to attract and support overseas talent. It has brought in 25 overseas tech talents and established connections with 147 more, fostering international cooperation and exchange.
"We're focused on building a supportive community for overseas returnees," said Ren Jia, chairman of SIMIC InnoSpring Incubator. The incubator hosts several industry associations and is working to establish an international R&D community to further enhance its services.
