A Canadian teacher named Jonathan from Shanghai Normal University's Tianhua College in the Jiading district of Shanghai recently attended the World Conference on China Studies -- Shanghai Forum, which opened on Nov 24.

The conference was aimed at deepening participants' understanding of ancient and modern China while exploring the future of the country. More than 400 Chinese and foreign guests attended the event, and Jonathan was impressed by the open and inclusive atmosphere.

Jonathan, who teaches academic English and introduction to English and American literature courses, expressed his delight at being invited to the forum. He found the discussions at the conference beneficial and said they would be of great help in his academic research and teaching.

An important topic of discussion at the conference was how China expands its "circle of friends" through initiatives like the Belt and Road Initiative. Experts and scholars from various countries also discussed topics such as Chinese-style modernization, Chinese literature and Chinese history.

During the forum, Jonathan listened attentively and made notes in the conference guidebook. He said the guidebook was a valuable tool that would assist him in his further studies and research. Jonathan also brought back some books to his college for colleagues to access.

Despite only recently moving to Jiading, Jonathan expressed a keen desire to explore the city, which boasts a history of over 800 years. He plans to visit local cultural landmarks and try local specialties in the future.

Jonathan said he chose to work in Jiading because of the flexibility of the school's curriculum, which allows him to teach various subjects related to international culture and history. As he continues his journey as a foreign teacher in Jiading, Jonathan believes that there is still much to discover and explore about the city and its rich history.
