Fahua Pagoda, the central landmark of Shanghai's Jiading district, has undergone extensive renovations and repairs over the centuries. The latest restoration project began in April and has just been completed, with the pagoda compound now reopened to the public.
To celebrate this momentous occasion, traditional cultural performances were held beneath the pagoda on Aug 28 upon its reopening.
The opening ceremony featured a special activity wherein students dressed in traditional Han costumes used brushes to carefully write the word "person" in an activity meant to symbolize steadfastness and dedication to learning. The event was carefully designed to reflect the history of the pagoda, which was once a place for people to pray for success in imperial examinations.

Nearly 100 different parts of the pagoda were repaired, restoring its former elegance and beauty. For both locals and tourists, the renewed Fahua Pagoda holds deep significance as a symbol of education and as a link to Jiading's history.
