Jiading district to build modern industrial system

Known for its automotive industry, Shanghai's Jiading district is making efforts to build a modern industrial system integrated with sectors including automotive, high-end medical equipment and precision medicine, smart sensors and internet of things (IoT), as well as platform economics.

In the first half of this year, the total output value of industries above designated size in the district exceeded 200 billion yuan ($27.47 billion), up 11.1 percent year-on-year.

In recent years, the automotive industry in Jiading district has seen transformations and upgrades in electrification, intelligence, connectivity, and sharing.

Among the over 4,300 companies on the district's auto industrial chain are global leading OEMs such as Volkswagen, Volvo and Toyota, as well as emerging auto brands such as NIO, Li Auto and Jidu Auto.

In 2022, the district saw its auto industrial scale exceed 830 billion yuan and the district's industrial scale of intelligent connected vehicles is expected to reach 3 trillion yuan by 2025.

In addition to driving the transformation of the auto industry, Jiading district is also working to foster industries such as high-end medical equipment and precision medicine, smart sensors and IoT, as well as platform economics.

In the high-end medical equipment and precision medicine sector, Jiading district has formed a cluster of listed companies with industrial leaders such as United Imagine Sanyou Medical, and Kindly Group that generated an output of 23.58 billion yuan in 2022. With regard to the smart sensors and IoT sector, the district is forming a layout focusing on integrated circuits. The platform economics sector generated an output of 311.9 billion yuan and e-commerce sales of 101.7 billion yuan in 2022.
