Bamboo carving exhibition unveiled in Jiading

An exhibition featuring bamboo carving works by Wang Wei, a fifth-inheritor of Jiading bamboo carving, was unveiled at Jiading Museum, Shanghai, on Feb 28.

The exhibition displayed 165 masterpieces by Wang involving bamboo carving, calligraphy and painting, purple clay, sculpture, and porcelain completed over the past 42 years that showcase the charm of the State-level intangible cultural heritage.

"Every piece of work is ingenious and integrates poetry and imagination into super-high skills," said a visitor surnamed Fan.

"Bamboo carving is a combination of painting and carving. With only a few strokes, the works aim to leave more space for people to understand and imagine," Fan added.

With sophisticated carving skills, Wang fully inherited the traditional techniques of Jiading bamboo carving, and made innovations, achieving preeminent progress.

The exhibition is scheduled to last until Apr 9, during which special activities are expected to be rolled out to promote Jiading bamboo carving in more diversified fashion.
