Sugiyama Takashi was born in Tokyo, Japan. He joined Fujitsu Limited in Japan in 1993, and came to Shanghai in May 2016.

He feels a deep connection to the city despite being from a different country. He compares Shanghai's transportation system to the Shinkansen in Japan for its convenience, and is astonished by the growing number of Japanese convenience stores and the authentic Japanese cuisine served in the malls, and even the increasingly rigorous rubbish sorting procedures that have been implemented in recent years.

Having lived in Jiading district for 10 years, he has deeply felt the changes happening around him. The atmosphere of life in Jiading is more intense than ever and technological elements are omnipresent. However, the charm stays. When revisiting the Confucius Temple, he found that neither the taste nor the appearance of the Xiaolongbao store has changed. "The inheritance of history has been done well in Jiading," Sugiyama said.

Technology has given the city a new vitality. It lays the foundation for Jiading's development and attracts talents to contribute to the innovative environment. He hopes that his company, Fujitsu General (Shanghai) Co Ltd, which has benefitted from China's social reform and opening-up in the past 27 years, will be a part of Jiading's bright future.
