Since April 1, Shanghai Volkswagen Powertrain Co, based in Jiading district, has been under closed-loop management, with over 530 staff and business partners staying in the factory to ensure production.

Because less than 10 percent of employees were able to come to work due to the COVID-19 outbreak in Shanghai, the company organized employees in a more flexible way to carry out production, according to Long Fengqing, the company's director of manufacturing.

Most personnel have been trained for numerous roles in different manufacturing lines as a result of the company's long-term devotion to the staff rotation method, and they will soon begin assembly work. "With a minimum of 16 percent of employees and a single-shift production model, we quickly restored 30 percent of our production capacity and successfully completed the production of more than 11,000 engines off the production line," Long said.

The company has also followed the anti-epidemic control and prevention measures to disinfect every corner of the company and arrange nucleic acid tests to ensure employees' safety and health.

The company divided a work area, activity area and temporary accommodation area for the employees and implemented grid-screening management.
