The 21st Shanghai Malu grape cultural festival will kick off in the Malu Grape Theme Park, Jiading district on July 2.
This year's festival will focus on the culture of Malu grapes and provide a host of activities for visitors, including lectures on grapes and wine, grape picking, wine making, grape tasting, as well as cultural activities like a calligraphy exhibition, a photography competition, and graffiti creation.
The development of Malu grapes over the past 40 years will be presented in videos and books during the opening ceremony.
In 2020, Malu town produced 5,198.9 tons of Malu grapes that had a total output value of 83.71 million yuan ($12.95 million).
This year, the first batch of Malu grapes from Malu Grape Research Institute entered the market on May 29. Visitors have been able to pick grapes in the Malu Grape Theme Park since June 5, earlier than the previous year.
Malu grapes will be made available to all consumers from July to around the National Day holiday, according to officials.
