The State Council, China's Cabinet, issued a plan in February for transforming the Hongqiao area of East China's Shanghai and its neighboring locations into an international hub – prompting Jiangqiao town in the city's Jiading district to welcome what officials described as a golden opportunity, according to a local news report.
Jiangqiao town, located in the North Hongqiao Business District, has beefed up efforts to transform and upgrade its industrial structure and improve its economic structure.
Featured industries, such as e-commerce and artificial intelligence, witnessed a boom during the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-20) period and the construction of headquarters and research and development centers has also been promoted in Jiangqiao.
For the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) period, the North Hongqiao Business District has issued plans to develop itself into a key area for innovation.
Moreover, the North Hongqiao Science and Technology Center in Jiangqiao has indicated that it will accelerate the development of high-end manufacturing, producer services, AI, medical treatment and health - as well as new materials and new energy resources - and cultivate a number of industrial clusters with dynamic innovation potential.
In recent years, Jiangqiao has maintained a people-centered development philosophy and reportedly been focused on innovative, coordinated, green, open and shared growth.
Efforts have been made to achieve the balanced development of the economy and the environment and it is expected that by the end of the 14th Five-Year Plan period, Jiangqiao will have a green area ratio of 23.5 percent and a per capita green area of 5.4 square meters.
"The integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta and the construction of the Hongqiao International Hub offer golden opportunities for Jiangqiao," according to Wei Xiaodong, Party secretary of the town.
Wei said that Jiangqiao will insist that development is for the people, with the benefits shared by the people. More efforts should be made to address the deficient aspects of people's livelihoods, while striving for high-quality development, Wei added.
