Shen Biao, Party secretary of Beiguan village, Jiading New City, Shanghai, has worked at the grassroots level for more than 40 years and has paid great attention to rural revitalization efforts during this year's two sessions, the annual meetings of the country's top legislative and advisory bodies, according to a local news report on March 7.

"It is my fourth time that I have attended the annual two sessions, and what concerns me most is how to achieve rural revitalization in Beiguan village," said Shen.

"Beiguan village will focus on industrial transformation, ecological development, and characteristic industries in the future, as well as comprehensively promote rural revitalization and accelerate the modernization of agriculture." He added that the village will ramp up efforts to optimize its business environment, as well as accelerate the transformation and upgrading of its collective economy to boost innovation and entrepreneurship.

Efforts will also be made to enhance the quality of life of local villagers, as well as to boost people's feeling of gain and happiness. A project aiming to make the village suitable to live and work began in 2017, with more than 580 well-equipped new houses to be built to improve the villagers' living environment.

Relying on its rich natural resources, the village will continue to beautify its environment. Fourteen ecological parks will be built, and the total green area in Beiguan will hit 66.67 hectares, with its forest coverage rate rising to 55 percent.

Supporting facilities for public service will also be built, including cultural and sports centers that will organize a range of activities for local villagers for their spare time.
