Smart farmers market opens in Jiading

( chinadaily.com.cn ) 2019-11-08

The renovated Zhangjiaqiao Farmers Market opened on Nov 8 in Jiading district, Shanghai. It is the district's first farmers market being equipped with a smart supervision system.

The new market is located at No 596 Jiatang Road and covers an area of 1,800 square meters. It has employed many state-of-the-art big data and cloud technologies.

Every booth is equipped with a monitor displaying the sellers' business license, prices, credit rating, and other information for customers to see.

Scales at every booth are connected to a big data terminal system. When the seller weighs an item, its weight and price will be synchronized with a backend database.

"Unlike traditional vegetable markets, we use big data to calculate the sales of every seller in order to optimize market supply and better meet the diverse needs of customers," said Zhang Jiajun, manager of the market's operation department.

The market is also equipped with a food inspection lab, which inspects every batch of vegetables, meat, rice, and noodles being sold at the market.

"The new market is convenient, clean, and makes use advanced technology. Information about every booth is clearly displayed," said a local surnamed Zhang.
