Jiading witnesses a boom in holiday consumer market

( chinadaily.com.cn ) 2014-05-08

The May Day holiday lifted revenue from Jiading’s consumer market with average daily sales in Jiading district of over 100 million yuan ($16.24 million).

According to the monitoring data of the Economic Committee of Jiading, 20 key commercial enterprises achieved a 300 million yuan ($48.72 million) sales record within three days, an increase of 36.3 percent compared with the same period in 2013.

“The data was in line with expected figures for the holiday economic stimulus, with the sales increase in first place among all the districts of Shanghai,” an officer from the Shanghai Municipal Statistics Bureau said.

The figures reflected the growth potential of the emerging industries, such as online shopping and weddings. The renowned Chinese E-Commerce company Jingdong Mall saw a 50-percent increase during the holiday market, and a total of 342 wedding banquets were held in Jiading district, 111 more than during the last public holiday.

Comparatively, the large shopping mall is also in very good shape. With its one-stop shopping experience and multi-function features, it has been welcomed by all age groups. Within three days, many shopping centers (such as Wanda Plaza, JiaTingYun and Shineton City Plaza) reached a total sales revenue of 33 million yuan ($5.36 million).

In contrast, traditional consumer enterprises have faced a downturn, with five hypermarkets including Auchan covering total sales of 15.66 million yuan ($2.54 million), a noteworthy descent of 3.2 percent compared with last year.
