In the northernmost part of the Horqin Sandy Land, located in Hinggan League in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, a comprehensive battle to end desertification has commenced.

Over 1,200 people gathered to try and control the sand, plant new greenery, and construct a series of green barriers.

"This year, we will complete the task of eliminating 59,000 mu (3,933.33 hectares) of exposed sandy land, manage 171,500 mu of desertified land, and implementing sand control by constructing photovoltaic facilities on 130,000 mu of sandy land," said Cai Baojun, the Party secretary of the Horqin Left Wing Middle Banner of Hinggan League.

In recent years, Hinggan League has continuously explored ways to improve its desert control, breaking down the ecological challenges of the Horqin grassland by implementing sand prevention and control, water conservation, soil conservation, and key wetland protection projects.

In 2024, Hinggan League will continue to boost wind power and photovoltaic integration, aiming to achieve sand control, green energy production, and increase the income of the local population.

Wei Dayong, director of the industry and information technology bureau of Hinggan League, stated, "The entire league will achieve a total installed capacity of 900,000 kilowatts of new energy and the comprehensive management of 140,000 mu of desertified land."

"After implementing photovoltaic sand control measures, we will guide the surrounding farmers and herdsmen to increase their income through renting out sandy land, maintaining photovoltaic panels, and participating in planting and breeding projects under the panels," said Geng Tianliang, director of the league's forestry and grassland bureau.
