'River chief' system bears fruitful results in Huzhou

Huzhou, East China's Zhejiang province has been reaping dividends from its "river chief" system.
The "river chief" system sees officials at each level of government take charge of the water sources in their area.
In 2003, Huzhou's Changxing county took the lead in the exploring the establishment of the "river chief" system, which was fully promoted across the city in 2013.
Huzhou has completed water quality treatment for river courses covering more than 1,000 kilometers and dredged water bodies spanning 47 million square meters in recent years.
The city has also become the first city to be awarded the Dayu Cup for its achievements in water control.
The Dayu Cup represents the highest honor in Zhejiang province for water control. It is named after Dayu, a legendary ancient Chinese hero who controlled the flooding of the Yellow River.
