Guizhou targets green, low-carbon and circular development

Southwest China's Guizhou province recently released the opinions on accelerating the establishment of a green, low-carbon and circular development economic system to give priority to environmental protection.

According to the opinions, by 2025, Guizhou's energy consumption per unit GDP should decrease by 13 percent, while carbon dioxide emissions per unit GDP should decrease by 18 percent from those in 2020.

The green economy should account for about 50 percent of GDP, and a green, low-carbon and circular economic development system should start to form by 2025.

By 2035, the system should be fully established, carbon emissions should reach their peak and start to decrease, and Guizhou should successfully become a pilot area for ecological civilization.

The opinions also require that by 2035, the urban domestic sewage treatment capacity increase by 440,000 cubic meters per day, and Guizhou construct or renovate 4,000 kilometers of sewage pipe network.

Guizhou should complete the screening and renovate black and odorous water bodies in its 10 county-level cities, and create a provincial platform and network to supervise the solid waste.

Guizhou should also ensure that all medical waste from medical institutions at the primary level or above is traceable, increase the kitchen waste treatment capacity in urban areas, construct domestic waste incineration facilities in counties, and eliminate landfills for domestic waste.
