During the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-2020) period, Southwest China's Guizhou province's total road length increased from 186,000 kilometers to 207,000 km, its total railway length increased from 3,037 km to 3,867 km, and the length of its water transportation routes increased from 3,660 km to 3,957 km.

In 2021, the total length of Guizhou's expressways exceeded 8,000 km, ranking fifth in China. It also completed the third stage of the Guiyang Longdongbao International Airport and resumed water transportation on the Wujiang River.

Guizhou is the first province in West China to connect every county with expressways. It is also a high-speed railway hub connecting the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, the Yangtze Delta region, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and the Sichuan-Chongqing-Yunnan region.

The modern transportation network has promoted Guizhou's beautiful scenery and helped it contribute to the Belt and Road Initiative, the Yangtze River Economic Belt and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

With stronger transportation infrastructure, Guizhou has achieved progress in inland open economy pilot area construction, enhanced opening-up, and accelerated economic development.
