Southwest China's Guizhou province exported 1.23 billion yuan ($192.9 million) of tea during the first 10 months of the year, a surge of 103.7 percent year-on-year, according to the latest figures from Guiyang Customs.
In 2020, Guizhou's tea output was 436,000 metric tons, worth 50.38 billion yuan. Tea exports totaled $231 million, making tea the most exported agricultural product in Guizhou.
During the first half of the current year, Guizhou's tea output volume reached 271,000 tons and was worth 45.53 billion yuan, increases of 10.63 percent and 19.96 percent year-on-year, respectively.
In recent years, Guizhou has not only expanded its overseas tea markets, but also attracted international companies such as Unilever and Taikoo, which have established export facilities and tea processing centers in the province.
Despite the impact of the novel coronavirus pandemic, Guizhou has reportedly received orders from the United States, Japan, Europe, Russia and Morocco and seen continued increases in its tea exports.
