A delegation of Japanese government representatives to China visited Guian New Area in Southwest China's Guizhou province on Oct 22. The visit focused on Guian's big data centers and big data-related companies.

At China Mobile's Guian big data center, the delegation was impressed by the application of energy-saving computer rooms, the city traffic analysis platform, emergency support platform, intelligent public utilities and civil uncrewed aerial vehicles.

As one of the first communication operators to settle in Guian, China Mobile put up an initial investment of 2 billion yuan ($299.82 million) to build the big data center. The center's construction is being done in three stages.

The first stage includes one data computer building and one support facility building, which have been put into operation. The second stage is under construction and will be complete in the first quarter of 2021.

When finished, the second stage will have 200,000 terabytes of storage capacity.

The delegation also visited BaishanCloud, a cloud data service provider headquartered in Guian. The company was established in 2015 and has been recognized by international authorities. It has provided services for over 1,000 companies, including Microsoft, Xiaomi and Sina.

According to Miyamoto Takaaki, head of the Beijing office of the Council of Local Authorities for International Relations, Japan can learn from Guizhou's approach to developing the economy while protecting the environment. He added that he hopes China and Japan will carry out more exchanges in the future.

As a core area of Guizhou's national big data comprehensive pilot zone, Guian has planned 14 supersized data centers in a 50-square-kilometer area and attracted seven companies to build data centers.

By 2025, Guian will have 4 million servers and over 40 billion yuan of fixed asset investment in data centers, which will help Guian to become China's largest high-security, environmentally friendly data center base.
