Activities launched to raise public awareness of reading in Guiyang

A series of activities designed to encourage more reading among citizens kicked off in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province on April 23 - this year's World Book Day.

The activities - including four key activities and 14 promotional ones - are arranged across the year, and they are expected to help citizens enrich their spiritual lives and develop the habit of reading.

From April to May, Guiyang will hold book and music festivals for children, with professional writers recommending book lists and reading children’s literature works online.

From July to August, a teenage recitation competition will be held to raise teenager's interest in reading. A poverty alleviation activity will also be held, inviting experienced volunteers, radio hosts, and library staff members to raise funds to buy books for rural schools' book corners.

From August to October, a tour of recitations and concerts will be held among Guiyang's major companies to advance traditional Chinese culture.

From October to November, the Guiyang library for children and teenagers will open to the public and hold a series of reading activities to raise interest in reading among teenagers.

Other reading activities for young and senior citizens will be held to promote reading among the public.
