It is quite common among women of the Miao ethnic group who speak Sichuan, Yunnan, and Guizhou dialects to use batik for dress decorations.
Most of them decorate clothes with batik, jacquard, and embroidery together. In each suit and skirt, the three are often fixed in a certain part of the dress, and the fixed position cannot be changed arbitrarily.
Most of the patterns are passed down from generation to generation without big changes. Some patterns are commemorative and can be taught for generations, which cannot be discarded or changed.
Common patterns include half moons, thick hooks, long straight lines, irregular small squares, thick cross-shaped strips, sun light, small dots, and thick big circles, featuring a simple, honest, and rough style.
Most of the patterns are dyed in black, dark blue or light blue. There are not many colored dyes. Such kind of wax printing is popular in western Guizhou, Yunnan, and southern Sichuan.
