Cosmetics week spotlights booming sector in Guangzhou
The second Guangzhou Cosmetics Week opened at the Baiyun International Convention Center on Dec 17 in Guangzhou, capital of South China's Guangdong province.
The main venue of the event is located in the city's Baiyun district, with sub-venues in the Yuexiu, Haizhu, Tianhe, Huangpu, Huadu and Conghua districts and the activities scheduled to continue to Dec 21.
During the opening ceremony, the Guangzhou administration for market regulation released the 2024 Guangzhou Cosmetics Industry White Book, showcasing the new highlights and achievements of the cosmetics industry in the metropolis.
According to the document, Guangzhou is home to 1,841 cosmetics production companies with an annual output value topping 100 billion yuan ($13.72 billion), ranking it first in China.
Guangzhou beauty products are highly popular in overseas markets, such as Southeast Asia, Europe, the Middle East and North America – featuring unique local Lingnan characteristics and an international style.

As the only district in Guangzhou with a complete cosmetics industry supply chain, Baiyun has been promoting its high-quality development in the sector. From January to October this year, the supply chain generated an output value of 28.8 billion yuan, with the number of enterprises increasing from 464 to 529.
What's more, Baiyun is said to be totally committed to promoting the transformation of the cosmetics industry into a "knowledge-based, digital, green and global" ecosystem that achieves significant results.
At the event, the 2024 Guangdong Beauty Selection List was released, with 36 products from 25 companies declared as the 2024 Guangdong Beauty Selection, including products from four companies in Baiyun.
