Baiyun rises in national competitiveness rankings
The Competitiveness Think Tank and Beijing Zhongxin Urban Planning and Design Institute released the "China County Development Monitoring Report 2024" in Beijing on Nov 19.
The report included a list of the Top 100 Districts in China for Comprehensive Competitiveness in 2024. Baiyun district, Guangzhou ranks 33rd on the list, five places higher than in 2023.

The report established a comprehensive evaluation system covering economic strength, technological innovation, green development, quality of life, and county governance. Using 2023 public data, the report shows that Baiyun's GDP steadily increased from 119.1 billion yuan ($16.44 billion) in 2012 to over 280 billion yuan in 2023, with an 8.1-percent growth rate, ranking third in the city. The district's general public budget revenue reached 8.15 billion yuan, a 9.1-percent increase, and fixed asset investment totaled 121.66 billion yuan, a 5.2-percent increase, ranking second in the city.
Baiyun boasts a number of transportation hubs, including Baiyun International Airport and Guangzhou Railway Station, and the district has been building major platforms and modern industrial clusters, with a total scale of 670 billion yuan. In the first three quarters of 2024, Baiyun's GDP reached 208.63 billion yuan, a growth of 5.1 percent year-on-year. The district is currently accelerating the transformation of traditional industries and planning future industries such as the low-altitude economy, humanoid robots, and biomanufacturing.
