Guangzhou Metro Line 13 Phase II achieves full tunnel breakthrough

Updated : September 3, 2024

Completing the full tunnel breakthrough marks a significant milestone in constructing Guangzhou Metro Line 13 Phase II. This achievement represents a major step forward in the development of this crucial east-west metro line.

The recent breakthrough occurred in the Songluo section, which connects Songxi and Luochongwei stations. Advanced techniques were used to overcome the unfavorable geological conditions.

The construction team upgraded the original plan for the Caihongqiao-Jiniantang section, accelerating the start date by 30 months. This optimization involved the addition of a shield shaft at the entrance of Liuhua Lake Park, which allowed for the simultaneous launch of shield machines for both Line 11 and Line 13 Phase II.

Guangzhou Metro Line 13 Phase II connects Yuzhu Station in Huangpu to Chaoyang Station in Baiyun, passing through several key districts including Tianhe, Yuexiu, and Liwan. Upon completion, it will connect with the first phase of Line 13, addressing the transportation needs between the central and eastern development areas of Guangzhou.

Line 13 Phase II is currently 84 percent complete. Sixteen of the 23 stations have been topped off, with the remaining seven undergoing construction. The project is progressing steadily, with the opening date getting closer.
