Baiyun airport celebrates 20 years of anniversary
Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, one of China's top three international aviation hubs, marks its 20th anniversary since its historic overnight transition.
Over the past two decades, Baiyun airport has transformed into a global aviation hub, connecting over 230 cities worldwide and upholding the highest passenger throughput in China for four consecutive years.
Since July, the airport has witnessed a daily average passenger flow surpassing 200,000, reflecting its pivotal role during the peak summer travel season. The airport's seamless overnight transition has set a precedent for large-scale airport relocations, emphasizing Baiyun's unwavering commitment to innovation and excellence.
Strategically located in Baiyun, the airport has consistently expanded and upgraded its infrastructure to meet growing demand. Notable milestones include the opening of the third runway in 2015, the launch of Terminal 2 in 2018, and the commencement of the Phase 3 expansion project in 2020. The latest expansion is set to enhance Guangzhou's status as an international aviation hub and drive economic growth in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
By the end of 2025, Baiyun airport's annual passenger capacity is slated to reach 140 million, with cargo throughput projected to hit six million metric tons. As the airport celebrates its 20th anniversary, it continues to fulfill a crucial role as a vital gateway bridging China and the world.
