The renovation and expansion project of the North Second Ring Road of the national highway from Shenyang, Liaoning province to Haikou, Hainan province has been approved by the General Office of the State Council, involving 18 villages in five townships of Baiyun district.

The total investment is approximately 15.8 billion yuan ($2.18 billion), with around 8.8 billion yuan allocated to the Baiyun section.

The Baiyun section of project reaches from Huocun village to the Longshan Interchange section, with an approved area of 1,081 mu (72 hectares).

The North Second Ring Road in Guangzhou is a section of the national highway network and an important part of the Guangzhou Ring Expressway, which was opened to traffic in January 2002.

In the over 20 years since its opening, the rapid development of the social economy in the Pearl River Delta region has led to a saturation of traffic on the road, necessitating its urgent expansion.

The expansion project will follow the original route, with a total length of about 39 kilometers, including a 25-km section in Baiyun, and is scheduled to be completed and opened to traffic in 2028 to further alleviate traffic pressure.

Baiyun will make every effort to ensure the best use of land, combining construction schedules to facilitate the project delivery schedule and implementing a coordinated approach to the project.
