Updated : April 18, 2024

Located in Xiongwei village, Zhongluotan town, Baiyun district, Guangzhou, a starfruit orchard has become a popular attraction for numerous tourists.

Last year, the distinctive agricultural product known as Xiangji Starfruit was selected as one of the top 10 specialty agricultural products in Baiyun. The fruit is large, fleshy, sweet, and juicy, highly favored in the market. It takes approximately 80 days from flowering to maturity, with a golden color and an average weight of 400 grams per fruit, boasting exceptional quality.

Due to its easy management, high yield, and extended harvesting period, Xiangji Starfruit is highly sought after in the market, with an annual production of over 300 metric tons and sales exceeding 3 million yuan ($41,000), primarily distributed to the Pearl River Delta region.

Villagers in Xiongwei village saw an increase in their income due to the successful cultivation of a unique agricultural product. The introduction of the Malaysian sweet starfruit variety in 2012 led to the establishment of the Xiangji Fruit Agricultural Cooperative in Baiyun. More than 300 farmers created the Xiangji Starfruit brand jointly, which has been driving their businesses' growth.

In 2020, Xiongwei village developed into a distinctive agricultural community focusing on starfruit and pomegranate cultivation. The cultivation area of Xiangji Starfruit expanded from 20 mu (1.33 hectare) to 200 mu, exploring a development path that combines tourism, leisure picking, and the extension of deep processing industrial chains, thereby driving the vitalization of rural industries.
