Baiyun promotes Zhengxian ICH promotion month
The 12th Zhengxian Intangible Cultural Heritage Month kicked off on Sept 10 at the Baiyun Mountain Scenic Area.
During the event, visitors can immerse themselves in performances, explore the cultural market, wear Hanfu, indulge in delicious food at the night markets, and participate in engaging activities.
This is an opportunity for visitors to not only appreciate Baiyun's cultural diversity local folklore, but also explore the historical charm of the "Legend of Zhengxian".
The legend itself is an intangible cultural heritage item in Guangzhou. It originated from the story of Zheng Anqi, a philosopher from the Qin Dynasty (221-206 BC). While collecting herbs to cure an epidemic, he accidentally fell off of Baiyun Mountain and then ascended to heaven riding on a crane.
To commemorate his ascent to heaven, the 25th day of the seventh lunar month is celebrated annually by the people. This tradition has a history of over 1,600 years.
