Huawei set up its research and development (R&D) center in Guangzhou's Baiyun district and has completed its Phase I project's two underground floors, sprinting toward the goal of fully capping the project by Oct 15.

The center is located in Baiyun's Songzhou Street and occupies 119,300 square meters with a floorage of about 305,000 sq m.

Constructed by China Construction Third Engineering Bureau, it plans to build eight R&D buildings, one hotel, one cooling tower and two underground floors. After completion, it can accommodate about 5,000 employees.

The project plans to engage in technical fields such as intelligent vehicles, cloud computing and the internet of things, and accelerate the application of ICT (information and communication technology) in Guangzhou's various industries.

By promoting the integration of IT application and industrialization, it plans to form a number of 100-billion-level ($14-billion-level) industrial clusters in the future, such as the cluster of intelligent vehicles and autonomous driving.

As Huawei's first R&D base in Guangzhou, it aims to improve the city's scientific and technological innovation strength, and build a high-tech demonstration park as well as a high-end talent gathering platform with international standards.
