Representatives give performances in the celebration of culture in Liede International Neighborhood.
On Feb 15, 2025, over the Lantern Festival weekend, a vibrant celebration of culture unfolded at Canton Place in Liede International Neighborhood. The event attracted consular representatives, international school students and faculty, members of foreign business chambers, as well as both local and international residents and tourists.
Combining the festive spirit of the Lantern Festival with a celebration of cultural diversity, the event showcased vibrant outdoor performances and a multicultural market, encouraging cross-cultural interaction and engagement.
The outdoor performances included the soulful voices of the International Choir of Guangzhou, stunning musical performances by the International School Rock'n'Roll Band, the passionate rhythms of Argentine tango, the energetic moves of Brazilian Zumba, and the lively beats of African drumming and dancing. In addition to enjoying these performances, the audience had the chance to join in, learning dance steps and rhythms alongside the performers, creating an atmosphere of shared cultural exchange.
The event also featured 70 market stalls, offering an immersive experience in global cultures, international cuisine, intangible cultural heritage crafts, and interactive art. Visitors can enjoy a one-stop experience with delicate cuisines from countries like Spain and India, ice cream from Turkey, along with snacks and coffee from the Middle East, Uganda, and Peru. They could also try on traditional qipao (chirpaur) and hanfu (Han traditional clothing) for photos or explore the craftsmanship of 145-year-old French custom tailoring. Additionally, several international schools and childcare institutions set up booths, providing opportunities for deeper cultural and educational exchanges between local and international residents.
A standout feature of the event was the consulate-themed exhibition area, where visitors could embark on a "Cultural Silk Road" through a range of captivating displays. These included virtual reality art from the Italian Renaissance, Ayurvedic therapies from India, ancient palaces from Poland, Turkey's natural landscapes, Ugandan African drumming, Peru's Andean culture, and Nepal's Thangka art. Without leaving the venue, attendees could explore the rich cultural tapestry of four continents – Europe, Asia, Africa, and South America.
This event, organized by institutions such as InterCulture, Idea Exchange, Speak & Lead, and Canton Place, is co-hosted by Liede International Neighborhood, GD Today, and Uhub, bringing together a diverse range of partners and community members.
It not only served as a platform for showcasing diverse cultures but also offered a unique opportunity for local and international residents to deepen their understanding of one another. It helped foster meaningful cultural connections and build stronger bonds between China and the world, contributing to the creation of a vibrant, multicultural atmosphere while further enhancing the image of Liede International Neighborhood.
Since Liede Subdistrict was selected as one of Guangzhou's first international neighborhoods in 2023, Liede International Neighborhood has embraced the vision of "Local Charm, Global Reach". By tapping into its rich cultural, tourism, and commercial resources, the area has hosted a range of cultural exchange activities, offering both local and international residents a diverse and enriching cultural experience.
