On the morning of July 14, the first phase of the 13th World Choir Games (WCG) wrapped up with a celebratory awards ceremony in Auckland, New Zealand. The Little Skylark Children's Choir from Guangzhou soared to victory, securing the championship title in the children's choir category with a high score of 92.63. Additionally, the Guangzhou Little Petrel Children's Choir captivated the judges with their exceptional performance, earning the gold award in the Folklore & Indigenous Music a cappella category and the silver award in the under-16 children's choir category. The dedication and talent of both choirs have been recognized, showcasing the remarkable capabilities of China's leading children's choirs on the global stage.

The World Choir Games, hosted by the INTERKULTUR, is the largest choral competition in the world and is dubbed the "Olympics" of choral singing. The 2024 WCG commenced on July 9 in Auckland, New Zealand, drawing over 250 distinguished choirs and groups from around the globe for cultural exchange, and to display their unique talents.

Established in 1981, the Little Skylark Children's Choir of Guangzhou is acclaimed as one of China's "Top Ten Excellent Children's Choirs." Their performance in the first phase of the children's choir category was met with resounding applause and cheers from the audience. The choir commissioned a piece from young composer Guan Yu for the competition, "Divine Inspiration," which embodies the vibrant spirit of the Yi ethnic group from Yunnan. The song portrays the joyous singing and dancing of the Yi people, and the profound inspiration that resonates in people's hearts. The children demonstrated the enduring charm of traditional Chinese music culture with their unique singing styles, synchronized dance steps, and skillful costume changes, all set against harmonious and soul-stirring drumming.

Founded in 1978, the Guangzhou Little Petrel Children's Choir has won 17 international choral gold awards. Competing in the Folklore & Indigenous Music a cappella category and the under-16 children's choir category, they faced formidable competition since the former is a highly competitive category with no age restrictions and is known for its high level of performance at the WCG. Yet, with confidence and poise, they delivered emotionally rich interpretations of the challenging and distinctive Chinese folk songs "Terraces in Grain Rain" ,"Wuzhi Mountain Silhouette" and"Countryside Duet" in a pure and luminous voice, coupled with masterful control of technique. Their performance painted vivid landscapes and celebrated the diverse and splendid Chinese national culture, ultimately winning the championship of the Folklore & Indigenous Music a cappella category with a perfect score of 93.
