Guangzhou, Guangdong province, organized an exhibition on Wednesday, marking the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Guangzhou Peasant Movement Institute.

The exhibition, themed "The Institute and Its Era", featured more than 350 historical pictures, 12 charts and 119 items/sets (including 20 cultural relics/sets) demonstrating the peasant movements of the 1920s.

It tells the story of the Communist Party of China's early exploration of the issue of Chinese peasants and the Chinese revolution. It also highlighted the institute's vital role as the "cradle of peasant movements".

The late Chinese chairman Mao Zedong became the institute's director in 1926 to train peasant leaders to launch peasant movements. Mao later led the peasant movements to establish revolutionary bases in Hunan and Jiangxi provinces.

In addition to officials, special guests and visitors, 184 descendants of the institute's teachers and students gathered at the opening ceremony.
