Michelin recently unveiled the 2024 edition of the prestigious Michelin Guide Guangzhou at the Shangri-La Hotel in Guangzhou, Guangdong province. This year's selection features 105 exceptional restaurants and honors three outstanding professionals for their culinary prowess.

Among the highlights of the latest guide, the three restaurants that secured Two Michelin Stars last year have successfully maintained their esteemed status. Furthermore, 16 establishments previously awarded One Michelin Star have retained their distinction, underscoring the consistent delivery of top-tier culinary experiences.

In a notable addition, Yu Garden, under the leadership of chef Chen Mingmei, has been newly awarded One Michelin Star, further enriching Guangzhou's gastronomic landscape.

Gwendal Poullennec, the international director of the Michelin Guides, expressed delight in showcasing Guangzhou's culinary treasures to a global audience, emphasizing the city's culinary diversity and excellence.

A significant recognition in this year's guide is the awarding of the Michelin Green Star to Yong, marking its debut in Guangzhou and making it the third establishment on the Chinese mainland to be acknowledged for its sustainable practices. Since its inception in August 2022, Yong, guided by executive chef Lan Guijun's culinary philosophy, has been celebrated for its commitment to capturing the essence of nature and flavor through innovative seasonal menus.

Yong's dedication to Chinese cultural heritage, utilization of local ingredients, and sustainable practices, including in-house pickling and fermentation, sets a new standard for eco-conscious dining. The restaurant's innovative approach extends to the elimination of plastic usage and the creative repurposing of leftover ingredients into flavorful sauces.

Additionally, the guide recognized culinary talents within the industry, with Li Yongsheng from Yu Yue Heen receiving the Michelin Young Chef Award, Leung Hao from Chowa honored with the Michelin Sommelier Award, and Christian Royce Rommeswinkel from The Attic clinching the Service Award for their exceptional contributions to the culinary scene.
