The inauguration ceremony for the Fijian Culture, Tourism and Art Exchange Center opened in the Nansha Waterfowl World Ecological Park on May 11, to promote tourism of the Pacific island nation of Fiji to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
At the ceremony, guests enjoyed Fiji's wonderful food and culture - including quaffing kava, the national drink made from the roots of the pepper plant - and watching the famous tuiboto dance, one of nation's traditional dances.
Since the city of Guangzhou forged friendship-city ties with Fiji in 2015, its Nansha district has carried out various kinds of exchanges with the island nation.
The opening of the exchange center is seen as a practical initiative to help Nansha build a new platform for international exchanges, marking a new starting point for cooperation between the district and Fiji.
Moving forwards, plans are for the center to carry out more activities in the fields of trade, fisheries and agriculture, to showcase Fiji's unique resources to the Greater Bay Area.
