The 28th Guangzhou Garden Expo kicked off in Guangzhou, Guangdong province, on Tuesday, putting flowers, flower arts, gardens and landscapes from around the world on display.

Chen Xun, deputy director of the Guangzhou Bureau of Forestry and Landscaping, said the expo, which was first held in 1994, is a major attraction for local residents and tourists to enjoy the flowers, bonsai and related landscapes in the southern metropolis during the Spring Festival holiday.

"In addition to different kinds of beautiful flowers, visitors will also be able to enjoy the culture, specialty and characteristics of landscape architecture in Guangzhou, its historical details and the open and inclusive attitude of the millennium flower city," Chen said at a news conference on Monday.

The expo also showcases Chinese gardens and landscapes from five Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area cities, including Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions, Shenzhen, Zhuhai and Dongguan, and bamboo culture from five Southeast Asian countries — Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Fiji and Nepal, this year," Chen said.

With an exhibition area of more than 100,000 square meters in Guangzhou's Haixinsha Park in the city's central business district, the expo will run until Feb 18, the seventh day of the Lunar New Year.
