The newly-widened deep-water channels at Guangzhou Port are expected to put into operation soon after dredging work was completed on July 30.

The widening project will put an end to the one-way navigation for large container ships between the Pearl River Estuary and Nansha port area, allowing two-way navigation for 100,000-metri-ton container ships and load-shedding 150,000-ton container ships.

The project, which started its first phase construction in October 2016, has finished a total of six phases of construction in four years, setting new records for Guangzhou's shipping channel construction in areas like preliminary coordination difficulty, construction difficulty and investment volume.

Guangzhou Port Authority will finish handling relevant procedures as soon as possible to realize the early operation of the new channel, further improving the comprehensive service ability of Guangzhou Port.
